Why not go beach, then bush?
Festivals offer the best of both worlds

If you can't decide between the beach or the bush for your next holiday, why not visit both? Wet a line at the Bowen Fishing Classic on 19 and 20 September, and then head west for the Outback Festival from 22 to 26 September.
These two popular Queensland events have established a co-operative partnership, with the aim of furthering the success of both festivals. Here at the Outback Festival in Winton, we look forward to attracting coastal families to enjoy a new experience in the Outback.
The Outback Festival concerts will feature top headline acts namely - Golden Guitar winner Travis Sinclair and 'On the Road Again', a celebration of the music and lives of Willie Nelson and Roy Orbison. You can enjoy the steel drum sounds of Jahbutu with their exciting blend of music direct from the streets of carnivale. Adding to the variety will be the duo Poetic Justice with about of 50 years of entertainment experience between them, from the 60s to the current day. Laurie and Hawko will feature on many occasions during the Outback Festival's five days.
Now in its 18th year, the Bowen Family Fishing Classic and Wet Weekend is the biggest family fishing competition in Australia. It offers recreational anglers the chance to compete for a fantastic range of prizes, while providing entertainment for the whole family. For more information visit www.bowenfamilyfishingclassic.com
If the 'Beach to the Bush' idea appeals to you, come and enjoy the best of two very different worlds. Get cracking - we'll make you welcome in Matilda Country!

Is your child made of IRON How about entering the Coca Cola Amatil Outback Iron Kids Event
Five events over several days - that's the Winton Outback Festival's Outback Iron Kid competition. The events require displays of strength, speed and skill. There is a great mix of local competitors and visitors, and the event always brings out tremendous sportsmanship and mateship.
And not only are the wonderful prizes a great incentive to enter! Competitors are offered a challenge, with the winner of each day being able to wear the coveted yellow t-shirt for the remainder of the festival. During 3 days of the festival competitors contest a swag toss, opal miners dash, whip cracking, Bowl-a-Saurus competition and the final event, tugging a Mini Moke. The wonderful support from a big gallery of family, friends and visitors make for a hugely entertaining event. The scoreboard is eagerly examined at the end of each day for the running totals. Not only is the Outback Iron Kids a great training ground for the Iron Man and Iron Women events, but "to participate and to finish is to be a winner". And what a great way to make Winton Outback Festival mates!

Who will claim honors in the World Crayfish Derby?
Crayfish - small freshwater crustaceans, marron, yabbies - are raced very rarely. But every two years the World Crayfish Derby is held at Winton as part of the Outback Festival.
The World Crayfish Derby, where 10 renowned thoroughcrays crawl under starters orders to do battle in this world class event, is hosted by the Royale Crustacean Racing Club. The derby comprises a three race program, run over a circular damp sand track of two metres. The sand sifter and water carrier make sure the track is in excellent condition before each race. The Boredrain Maiden is the first race of the derby and this year it has attracted a full field. Saddling up for race two, The Bindi Eye Flutter, will be done under the eagle eye of the cray tickler and the Hon. Vet Sturgeon. Betting is brisk with the on track bookies in readiness for Race 3.
Members of the Royale Crustacean Racing Club (RCRC) will be proudly wearing their Club Badges and enjoying chicken and complimentary wine while viewing the races from the exclusive members' stand. Dress code for this occasion is naturally Melbourne Cup style. See you at the race 2:30pm Friday 25th September at the Eric Lenton Memorial Recreation Ground. |

Windy Wizard set to entertain Winton
Rabbits are not the only things hidden in his hat!
Windy the Wizard is often asked "can you pull a rabbit out of the hat?" and the answer is "yes - and also frogs, toads, chickens and other exciting critters!"
He’s also been known to take his chicken, Henrietta, for walks, and his rabbit, Stuart, is never very far away either.
With his weird, wacky, wild and witty style of outrageous humour, Windy the Wizard delights people of all ages. His creative clowning, goofy juggling and silly stilt-walking is sure to put a smile on your dial. His crazy uni-cycling and wicked trick bike riding keeps his audience awestruck, while his balloon sculpting bewilders and his magic simply amazes.
Not only that - he’ll even give you $50 if you can ride his reverse bicycle!
Windy the Wizard is just one of the roving entertainers you will see at the Outback Festival. Keep an eye out for him and his magical band of animals - and try not to step on his chicken!
